Updated EN 13476-2:2025 Tightens Hydrostatic Testing Thresholds for PVC, PP Structured-Wall Sewer Pipes Across Europe

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) has officially enforced the revised EN 13476-2:2025 specification, imposing stricter long-term hydrostatic pressure verification requirements on buried non-pressure drainage pipes made of PVC-U, polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene materials. The updated clause raises the duration of constant internal hydraulic loading for pipe ring stiffness evaluation and clarifies leakage judgment criteria for pipe joints under sustained water pressure, directly impacting product access to EU municipal sewer engineering projects.

According to testing laboratory feedback, numerous conventional double-wall corrugated PVC sewer pipes failed the extended hydrostatic endurance test due to insufficient wall thickness uniformity and poor fusion tightness of socket connections. Industry insiders pointed out that manufacturers must adopt full-automatic multi-channel hydrostatic pressure testers calibrated to ISO 1167 to complete batch stress rupture tests, so as to quantify long-term creep resistance and avoid underground pipeline collapse and sewage infiltration risks in long-term service. This standard upgrade has become a mandatory quality threshold for plastic drainage pipe exporters targeting European infrastructure procurement tenders.
