The Vicat Softening Temperature (VST) is defined as the temperature at which a flat-ended needle with a 1 mm² circular cross-sectional area penetrates a thermoplastic specimen to a depth of 1 mm. This test is conducted under a specified perpendicular load (force) and at a selected uniform rate of temperature rise--consistent with international testing standards (e.g., ISO 306, ASTM D1525).
